Crescent City is the Del Norte County seat.
A large commercial fishing fleet is located right along Hwy 101 for all to experience. “Lake Earl State Park” abounds with wildlife for viewing and photographing. North of Hwy 199, just 9 miles east of Crescent City, you’ll pass through the spectacular “Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park“-named after the intrepid explorer Jedidiah Strong Smith, who was the first white man to explore the interior of northern California.
Conifers other than redwoods include western hemlock, Sitka spruce, grand and Douglas fir, and the less common Port Oxford cedar. Wildlife in the park is abundant and varied, including black bears, Deer, coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, skunks, foxes, beavers, river otters, squirrels, chipmunks, and many others.
Heading north towards Oregon is the beautiful “Smith River,” famous for its Salmon fishing and natural beauty. To the south lies Humboldt County with a diverse array of history, culture, nature, wildlife, and breath taking beauty everywhere you turn.
