Garberville is the “hub” of the Southern Humboldt area. Just a few miles north is the southern entrance to the Avenue of the Giants— a 31–mile drive through Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Find a variety of interesting shops, inns and restaurants, plus vast groves of amazing hiking trails to suit all levels. The south fork of the Eel River flows directly through Garberville and Redway northward beside the “Avenue” with incredible swimming holes and pristine landscapes. Experience the largest stands of old-growth redwoods in the world and do not miss the Rockefeller Forest or Founders Grove!
West is the coastal community of Shelter Cove offering ocean fishing, mountain and coastal hiking in the King Range National Conservation Area and The Lost Coast. Expect to see elk herds, seals, whales, seabirds and more. There’s also the Gyppo Ale Mill— California’s most remote brewery that serves amazing craft beers, local wines and farm to table cuisine plus live entertainment, the new Surf Point Coffee House, DelGada Pizza as well as, Mi Mochima serving authentic Venezuelan food!
Three miles South of Garberville is Benbow Lake State Recreation Area and the Historic Benbow Inn & Restaurant & Lounge, a golf course and KOA RV Park. Head eastbound from Garberville into the spectacular timberland and rolling cattle range land, most of which was homesteaded in the middle to late 1800’s. You just might find what’s been waiting to meet you around some curve in the road.
